 Basquiat's art was showing regularly alongside Julian Schnabel, David Salle, Francesco Clemente and Enz Cucchi, became part of what was called the Neo-expressionist movement. He started dating an aspiring and then-unknown performer named Madonna in the fall of 1982. That same year, Basquiat met Andy Warhol, with whom he collaborated extensively, eventually forging a close, if strained, friendship.

Basquiat died accidentally of mixed-drug toxicity, he had been combining cocaine and heroin, known as "speedballing" at his 57 Great Jones Street loft/studio in 1988.

27 Club, also occasionally known as the Forever 27 Club or the Club 27, is a popular culture name for a group of influential rock and blues musicians who all died at the age of 27, sometimes under mysterious circumstances. 

The list includes Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain. Jimi Hendrix,  Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison all died within a ten month period.  Morrison and Jones died on the same date two years apart. Kurt Cobain, who died in 1994, was later included by some, probably due to his popularity and his death occurring at the pinnacle of his career.

HELP SAVE OUR STREET URCHINS

It has come to our attention that some artist named Damien Hirst has allegedly been picking on one of our treasured Street Urchins who used a bit of art in one of his collages.

Thanks to Red Rag To A Bull and a small group of highly trained artists you can now save this Street Urchin from certain death and help him get back the 200 quid that this Hirst allegedly nicked off him.

All of the works below are for sale and once TWENTY MILLION POUNDS has been raised ALL the proceeds will go to make an exact copy of a sculpture known as "For the Love of God". This will then be sold for FIFTY MILLION POUNDS and the THIRTY MILLION POUND profit will then be used to repay the Street Urchin his 200 quid, help other Street Urchins and also feed starving children in Africa and Sussex

After a good response about my SKANK Kurt Cobaine collage, i have been working on more.

Using wallpaper and builders calk for some excellent results.  Its becoming an addictive process.

This collage of David Bowie works realy well against the background.
Mixing wallpaper, stones, spray paint and magazine cuttings.

Nnot so sure i should have added the older bowie??? but it add a kind of look as if he is thinking back on his Ziggy days.
What do you think ???

The Shambles Vintage Boutique in Sunderland have just opened an arts café. We're talking chic, we're talking welcoming, we're talking ourselves into a smoothie.

The Shambles Vintage Boutique is the first shop in Sunderland to be solely dedicated to selling vintage clothes. The shop on Derwent St., has been something of a magnet for indie kids, emos and all those interested in fashionable pursuits and now they've all got somewhere to have a cuppa. Their upstairs café is very swanky (not expensive though) and has art displayed by local artists that can also be purchased.

I have been working on building my own frames and stretching the canvas.
Im starting to perfect it, it feels like a work of art in its self once i finnish....so now i can build any size canvas.

50x50cm and 100x100cm  are proving to be good sizes to work on.

Drawing inspiration from when i lived in australia and looking at aboriginal art,  I want to try and blend in the dots used in aboriginal art and mix that with iconic pop art.
